LiteraryKnox is a new, interactive way to experience downtown Knoxville. Take our self-guided tour to see Knoxville as Cormac McCarthy, Nikki Giovanni, James Agee, an Alex Haley saw it. Visit our website and use our map to take yourself through downtown, stopping off at historic and meaningful locations from the stories and poems set in the Scruffy City. Click through the locations on our map, read about the stops along the way, and see what Knoxville's literary legacy looks like.
And make note, you can plan your own experiences at some of the stops on the tour that are still popular today. Enjoy a concert at the Bijou Theatre; shopping, dining and entertainment on Market Square; and a stroll or bike ride along the Riverside at Volunteer Landing. You might even want to stop at Suttree’s High Gravity Tavern. The character in Suttree whose phone number is referenced, Jim “J-Bone” Long, actually visited the tavern just after it opened, and just before he died, and was proud of it.
