Convention Sales Director

Visit Knoxville is seeking a highly qualified and motivated sales professional versed in the tourism and meetings industry to seek, identify and develop new business within specific markets with an end result of producing a consistent stream of leads and bookings to hotels/motels/facilities via signed contracts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent sales effort via solicitation telephone calls, sales events and sales travel for specific markets.
  • Promote and sell the City of Knoxville/Knox County to groups as a premiere meeting destination.
  • Work with local organizations and associations to generate leads for state, regional and or national meetings.
  • Engage in sales activities that produce leads from assigned markets to Knoxville/Knox County hospitality industry (hotel, convention center, and meeting facilities)
  • Maintain memberships in professional organizations and maintain relationships that produce sales in assigned market segments.
  • Participate in destination reviews (FAM’s) and site visits
  • Effectively communicate research and service needs to proper individuals
  • Work with Sales Team in any capacity to assist with efforts for increased team productivity
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with members of the local hospitality industry
  • Maintain individual accounts in sales database system, making sure account information is current.

Part-Time Visitor Center Associate

The Visitor Services Department is in search of an outgoing individual for a part-time front desk position in the Visitor Center. This individual must be positive, very reliable, organized, and computer savvy. Excellent communication skills are a must. Weekends and Holidays required. Flexibility with schedule a must. Marketing and Communications Intern

The Marketing Department is looking for a qualified candidate(s) to join our team in the form of an unpaid intern to assist in a variety of ways including (but not limited to):

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Basic design work, primarily creating Pinterest Pins via Canva, estimated 2/week
  • Writing blog posts for website at visitknoxville.com, estimated 2-3/semester 
  • Crafting descriptions and selecting quality photos for business listings on visitknoxville.com, estimated 10/week
  • Assisting with social media by taking photos and scheduling posts, as needed

This internship position is offered during the Fall, Spring, and/or Summer semesters and is open to students and non-students alike. All applicants must be available a minimum of 15 hours per week, with the possibility of some evening and weekend event needs. Convention Services Intern

The Convention Services Department is looking for the perfect candidate(s) to come aboard our team in the form of an unpaid intern to assist us within a variety of areas: 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Event Research & Development
  • Assist with Familiarization (FAM) Tour development and execution
  • Event Fulfillment
  • Visitor Information Distribution
  • Event Operational & Logistics Assistance
  • Event Concept and Creativity Assistance
  • Requesting bids for various event services (transportation, catering, etc.)
  • Soliciting partners to participate in programs and events

Housing Department & Sports Commission Intern

The Visit Knoxville Housing Department and Sports Commission is looking for a qualified candidate(s) to come aboard our team in the form of an unpaid intern to assist us within a variety of areas:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Learn and utilize hotel management software to book room reservations
• Assist with reservation emails and phone calls as needed
• Assist with the management of team blocks for sports groups
• Run and save reports via the housing system
• Assist with other tasks in the sports/housing departments as needed

This internship is best fit for students interested in sports, tourism, hospitality, and events. Customer service experience of some kind is highly preferred. This internship position is offered during the Spring and Summer semesters. Priority will be given to students who can commit to both the Spring and Summer Semester (January – July). All applicants must be available to work two (2) or three (3) days out of the week. Sports Commission Intern

The Visit Knoxville Sports Commission is looking for the perfect candidate(s) to come aboard our team in the form of an unpaid intern to assist with a variety of tasks:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with event equipment set up prior to tournaments (Basketball/volleyball court set up, goals/scoreboards set up, signage placement and set up, etc.) and event tear down
• Onsite tournament assistance (Tasks will vary by tournament, but could include wristband checks, registration and check-in tables, hospitality suite assistance, etc.)
• Compiling Visitor materials and welcome bags for VIPS and tournament attendees
• Other miscellaneous projects with Sports Sales & Service team as needed

This internship is best fit for students interested in sports, tourism, hospitality, and events. The ability to lift 30 – 40 lbs is required. This internship position is offered during the Spring and Summer semesters. Priority will be given to students who can commit to both the Spring and Summer Semester (January – July). Flexibility in hours and tasks is important for this role. Sales Intern

The Sales Department is looking to find a fun, hard-working individual to join our sales team in the form of an unpaid internship.  This person will have an opportunity to hit the ground running by:

  • Researching lead lists for sales director solicitation
  • Learning and utilizing the sales database system for various projects
  • Assisting sales directors in preparation for sales blitzes, trade shows, site visits, and bid package development
  • Assisting the Sales & Services team in Familiarization (FAM) Tour development and execution
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Sr. Director of Sales
