“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.” I have one friend that LOVES the movie ELF. Her excitement over the movie is infectious, so are the holidays for some of us. The first look at Charlie Brown waiting for a pumpkin gets us rolling into the holidays.

Thanksgiving in Knoxville is filled with friends and family and hopefully if you have some friends without family you have invited them over, you know one less set of leftovers will make someone’s day. I am not with family and am lucky enough to be invited every year to a loquacious gathering so much larger than my actual family. A bunch of misfits all at tables with kids running around, sounds like your house, well it’s my family in Knoxville and I am lucky to have them.

It is also time to start some new traditions with your friends and family. Fantasy of Trees is a bit of a tradition for some as well as a wonderful event for Children’s Hospital. This year Visit Knoxville is working with the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree on their stop in Knoxville on the Clinch Avenue Viaduct! Yep you can visit the tree on its way to the Nation’s Capital.

Knoxville starts their traditional Christmas in the City the day after Thanksgiving. Think HUGE tree lighting, ice skating and fun for everyone. Plus Chilhowee Park has amazing lights. for everyone to enjoy.

This year there is a new tradition coming to Knoxville. Scout elves will be landing in Knoxville to entertain all the boys and girls throughout downtown. Ours is the only community in the country that has an Elf on the Shelf Adventure!

And the adventures keep coming! Like train rides? Hop on the Three Rivers Ramblers Christmas Lantern Express and ride the rails into a snowy wonderland where Santa makes a visit!

The 2016 Holiday Festival of Lights at The Cove at Concord Park will sparkle and entertain each night from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 16 through Friday, December 30. And there’s something special about hot cocoa and friends at Light the Park on Monday, Nov. 28 at 6 PM at Founders Park at Campbell Station.

There are so many things going on around our great city so our little elves created this page to help you out! Enjoy your friends and family throughout the holiday season.
