Knoxville, TN — The Maker City is proud to announce the launch of its new Maker Space Scholarship Program, an initiative designed to remove barriers for local makers and provide access to the tools, space, and support they need to grow sustainable creative businesses.
Knoxville’s maker community—including woodworkers, ceramicists, textile artists, metalworkers, and product designers—has long been a driving force behind the city’s culture and economy. One of the biggest challenges these individuals face is access to affordable workspace and equipment, a need this program aims to meet head-on.
"This program is about making space, literally and figuratively, for creativity to thrive," the organization stated. "We know that when makers have the right environment and support, they build businesses and strengthen communities".
Program Goals
The Maker Space Scholarship Program is designed to:
-
Provide financial support for studio or maker space memberships for one year.
-
Offer access to tools, equipment, and shared workspaces.
-
Connect participants to business training, mentorship, and professional development.
-
Help makers scale their work from a hobby to a viable business.
By investing in individual makers, the program strengthens the broader creative ecosystem and ensures Knoxville remains a place where creativity can flourish at every level.
Eligibility and Applications
Applications are open to makers in the Knoxville area who demonstrate a commitment to their creative practice and would benefit from dedicated workspace and equipment. The program seeks individuals interested in developing the business side of their craft or completing a structured body of work, and it aims to represent a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. There is a special focus on supporting makers who face financial or structural barriers to traditional studio environments.
