Knoxville, TN - The Rotary Club of West Knoxville presents its second annual ROCKYTOP Hummin’ & Strummin’ BBQ COOK-OFF. Bring your whole family and enjoy a fun-filled weekend with some of the best outdoor cooks in the country and a smorgasbord of other festivities. A Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event, the ROCKYTOP Hummin’ & Strummin’ BBQ COOK-OFF will happen on May 30 and May 31 at the Episcopal School of Knoxville. In addition to the sweet smell of hickory smoke, seven bands will fill the air with music.
The event is a Designated State Championship, sanctioned by the KCBS and a Qualifier for the American Royal Barbecue and the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational. This year the ROCKYTOP Hummin’ & Strummin’ BBQ COOK-OFF has teamed up with Sevierville’s Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass event and Maryville’s Big Bash BBQ and is the second leg of the Triple Crown.
One of the tastiest events of the weekend is the People’s Choice Award – where a limited number tickets (200 @ $15 ea.) are available for the public to taste and judge the BBQ from 15 of the BBQ Cook Teams. The People’s Choice is the only way to actually sample the Competing Cook Teams BBQ. However food Vendors, such as Dead End BBQ, Bull’s BBQ and Mother Shuckers will have plenty of tasty food for patrons as they enjoy the festive event.
All proceeds from ROCKYTOP Hummin’ and Strummin’ will help support the Rotary Club’s local and international service projects, including providing Dictionaries for every Third Grader in Knox County, Flu Shot Saturday at West High School, support for Pond Gap Elementary, Clean Water and Literacy Projects in the South Sudan and help in eradicating Polio worldwide.
