Swimming in the Urban Wilderness

The sparkling clear blue waters of the Augusta Quarry is surrounded by tall rock cliffs that make a picturesque setting. Access the lake from the Augusta Quarry entrance.

Mead’s Quarry Lake let’s you take the plunge after a ride or hike.  The swimming area is marked with a rope and buoys and has a floating dock. Those under 18 years old must to be accompanied by an adult.

There is no lifeguard at these swimming areas, so you will swim at your own risk.

Directions: Take I–40 to exit 389, Hall of Fame Dr and head southbound. Continue straight and turn right on Hill Ave, then left on Gay St. Cross the bridge and turn right onto Blount Ave. Cross Chapman Highway to continue on Blount Ave. Turn left on Augusta St which ends at the gravel parking lot. Users can park at this first parking area or continue on the gravel road to the quarry access parking area.

Ijams Nature Center, Ijams Quarries

Trailhead Parking: 3518 Island Home Pike

Directions: From Ijams, continue south on Island Home Ave which becomes Island Home Pike. After the railroad tracks, turn right into the parking area for the quarries and trails.
