Paddling in the Urban Wilderness

The sparkling blue lake of Mead’s Quarry at Ijams Quarry is surrounded by tall rock cliffs make a beautiful setting for a calm-water paddle. Canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available seasonally at Ijams Quarry. No private boats are allowed. Access the lake at the Ijams Quarry parking lot.

Ijams River Landing offers excellent non-motorized access to the Tennessee River. Access is free and open to the public. Ijams River Landing is located south of the Nature Center Main Campus. You may bring your own paddle boat to Ijams River Landing. Parking is available at Ijams Nature Center and at Ijams Quarries.  A great downriver option for paddling is to launch from Ijams River Landing and takeout at Island Home Park or Suttree Landing.

Trailhead Parking: 3518 Island Home Pike

Directions: From Ijams, continue south on Island Home Ave which becomes Island Home Pike. After the railroad tracks, turn right into the parking area for the quarries and trails.

Ijams River Landing
