A Legacy Park Treasure
The William Hastie Natural Area is part of the Knoxville Urban Wilderness, a recreational, cultural, and historic preservation initiative championed by Legacy Parks Foundation, incorporating 1,000-forested acres along downtown’s south waterfront. It creates an exceptional recreation and historic corridor inviting residents and visitors to experience the special character-defining assets of our city. With over 40 miles of multi-use trails, 10 parks, four civil war sites, incredible views, and unparalleled natural features, this unique area provides a premiere outdoor experience.

Just a few miles from downtown, the trails at William Hasties Natural Area provide hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers 4 miles of singletrack trails. Winding through heavily forested property, the trails are well-maintained and blazed. The almost 2-mile natural trail that winds through Marie Myers Park connects William Hastie Natural Area to the Ross Marble Quarry trails at Ijams Nature Center.

The Knoxville Urban Wilderness South Loop features 35 miles of multi-use trails. The 11.5-mile main South Loop winds through parks and private property easements connecting William Hastie Natural Area, Forks of the River, Anderson School, Helix Trails, Ijams Nature Center, and Marie Myers Park. Within these individual systems there are 24 miles of secondary trails to explore and enjoy.
