Fort Loudoun State Historic Park

338 Fort Loudoun Road | Vonore, TN 37885
Vonore, TN 37885
Region: Regional

Much of Fort Loudoun State Historic Park resides on an island on the Tellico Lake, overlooking the Appalachian Mountains. On these historic banks, you can visit the reconstruction of the original 1756 Fort Loudoun which was built by the British during the French and Indian War. This was one of the earliest British fortifications on the western frontier. The Park's Interpretive Center can provide detailed information on the reconstructed fort, the area's history and artifacts. In addition, visitors can enjoy a 15-minute film protraying this period in history. Along with the park's historical features there are a variety of recreational activities to enjoy. The Tellico Blockhouse, was an American Fort built in 1794, is located at the confluence of Nine Mile Creek and the Little Tennessee River just across from Fort Loudoun. Another nearby historic attraction is the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum that honors Sequoyah, the ingenious Cherokee Indian that invented their alphabet.

Fishing: The island is surrounded by the Tellico Lake providing miles of shoreline and banks to fish or if you prefer the Park has a fishing pier. There is another local fishing pier just east of the park off US-411 (1st right after bridge - see map below).

Paddling: Paddlers can put-in at the park's ramp and paddle the Tellico Lake. Take a trip around the island and stop to visit the Sequoyah Museum and the Tellico Blockhouse.

Trails: There are 5.5 miles of scenic natural trails that wind through the park. There is a paved walkway that contours the shoreline connecting to the picnic spots scattered throughout the park. If you'd like to explore a few more miles of trail while in the area, head across the highway at the Sequoyah Museum and walk their shoreline loop.
