The Big South fork is exactly that, BIG. Encompassing an astounding 123,000 acres, this National River and Recreation area sits on the Cumberland Plateau and houses some of the most isolated land on the east coast. Here climbers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts of all forms will find pristine waterfalls, deep river gorges, caves, natural stone arches, rock shelters from earlier inhabitants and much much more. For adventure climbing, The Big South Fork is about as good as it gets. Climbers interested in backcountry exploration, multi-pitch outings and aid climbing will find their own little heaven here. The majority of the rock at BSF is undeveloped due to either park regulations prohibiting climbing in certain areas or a current moratorium on the use of power drills. Still, if a grand adventure is what you're looking for, check out Pine Creek, 911 and 0&W walls. A good selection of single pitch routes can also be found down Gorge Rd. and at the Blue Heron area.
