Knoxville-based professional theatre company, River & Rail, is bringing back Knoxville's newest holiday classic for the third consecutive year. This original folk-rock musical comedy, is a refreshing, unexpected take on the classic Christmas story.

New York City playwright, Chris Cragin-Day (Martin Luther on Trial, Foster Mom) uses contemporary language to explore the humanity of the characters, and composer/lyricist, Don Chaffer (of the band, Waterdeep) has created a score with a legitimate folk-bluesrock sound that’s both rare and surprising in music theater. Best of all, the dialog and lyrics weave together to create a storytelling experience for audiences that has them laughing one moment and crying the next.

The Unusual Tale of Mary & Joseph’s Baby dares to take the classic story at its word. There really is a pregnant virgin. She really is just a breath away from death by stoning. There are shepherds, angels, foreign dignitaries (a.k.a. wise men), a ratty extra room-slash-stable at an inn, and a maniacal, bloodthirsty dictator whose menacing shadow hangs over everything! And obviously... it's a comedy.

Directed by Amelia Peterson (River & Rail Co-Founder), the show stars: Kaylor Green, Belén Moyano, Steven Romero Schaeffer, and Justin Turpin.
