The 1969 protest against police harassment at the Stonewall Inn in New York City is largely credited with sparking the modern-day civil rights movement for LGBTQ community members.
The entire Knoxville area community is invited to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising by attending this free concert at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church (www.tvuuc.org).
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a reception that will include light snacks and beverages. The program begins at 8 p.m. and lasts one hour.
Childcare is provided, but please make a reservation. Call 523-4176, ext. 101, and state the number and ages of your children.
The concert features the Knoxville Gay Men’s Chorus, singer-song writer Juniper Stinnett, and the Accidentals. There will also be brief accounts of why Stonewall holds such significance for the LGBTQ+ community -- and for all of us.
