Historic Ivan Racheff House and Gardens, state headquarters of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, will have its annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 1 from 9:00 AM to 2 PM. Located at 1943 Tennessee Avenue in Knoxville near the Gerdau Ameristeel plant in the Lonsdale community, the historic house and gardens was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. Dozens of varieties of plants will be available for sale including herbs, succulents, native plants, annuals, perennials and wild flowers. Azaleas, camellias, and other shrubs will be offered, as well as specialty items such as garden books, birdhouses and feeders, garden tools, and handcrafted hypertufa planters. Lunch may be purchased from The Spring Plant Sale Café from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the maintenance of the gardens, which are open to the public at no charge from February 15 – December 15. During the Dogwood Arts Festival, the garden will be open Monday through Sunday for viewing the spring blooming plants and landscaping. Over ten vendors specializing in various plants and shrubs will be in attendance. Growers will be on hand to assist with selection of plants suitable for various landscapes as well as proper planting and care.
