Parlor is an exhibition which employs hyperrealism and surrealism through the use of simulacrums. Porcelain is used to represent rugs, plants and flowers, where the ceramic objects are juxtaposed with actual examples of the parodies; pipe cleaners become a structural material to create furniture. Fragility and impermanence are contrasted with their porcelain opposites, and furniture which is reliable and sturdy is cast as comparatively light and insubstantial, though just as ecologically permanent. The immersive exhibition uses uncanny mimicry ask how one understands what is real, and to question ideological perceptions of materiality.
