MEOB — which stands for “Man Eating Ogre Boy,” a good-natured nickname an old friend of Sayne’s gave him years ago — started out as a solo project for Sayne’s songs that didn’t fit under the banner of Madre, the alt-rock group he and Osborne founded in 2008.

The group specializes in both major and minor, sharp and flat, loud and louder, fast and less fast. If you spent the 2000s listening to all the right indie rock, Knoxville trio Meob’s may offer a sustained and rather welcome sense of deja vu. There are elements of everything from ’80s jangle-pop to Fugazi-esque freneticism to Modest Mouse-style quirkiness. It’s a style built on friendship and a respect for the talent all three men have as players in a number of different East Tennessee-based projects.
