Participants ages 6-14 can come learn about watersheds and water conservation while exploring one of the park's ponds.
Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Stephanie will demonstrate how water flows through a watershed and how contaminants enter the watershed. After the demonstration, Ranger Stephanie will lead the group to explore one of the ponds in the park to search for living things using dip nets, jars, and magnifying glasses. We'll learn about bioindicators of stream/pond water quality and what we can learn about a stream/pond by what is or is not found during a sampling session. A short program lesson will be given on water safety.
This program will be one of the Junior Ranger programs that children can participate in towards completion of Tennessee State Park’s Junior Ranger Adventure Guide booklet. After completing a specified number of topics in the booklet, depending on their age, participants will receive a Junior Ranger badge.
Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray. Please wear clothing and footwear that you would not mind getting wet or dirty. A dry change of clothes would be a good idea to bring along. Please meet at the Bluebird Barn by the main entrance of the park by 9:00am. In the event of rain, this program will be rescheduled for a later date. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED because space is limited, so please register to reserve your spot today! This is a free program as part of our Junior Rangers series.
