Knoxville Opera is pleased to invite all students to attend the Final Dress Rehearsal of each opera production for free. These rehearsals are thrilling experiences of live, fully staged operas featuring fabulous solo artists, the Knoxville Opera Chorus, and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, all under the direction of Maestro Brian Salesky. Guests are invited to sit anywhere in the open section of the theatre and may come and go during the reherasal.

Riveting drama and passionate music will transport you to places you have never dreamed possible! Don’t speak foreign languages? Don’t worry! Regardless of the language in which we perform, all operas are presented with projected English translations/lyrics on a screen above the stage. Admittance is free for students. Non-Students pay $5 cash at the door and MUST be escorting a student for admittance. These are not public performances. College student IDs may be required.

At the turn of the 20th century, an innocent Japanese girl falls victim to a U.S. naval officer and an ancient code of honor that foreshadows her fate. Puccini’s dramatic, romantic music brilliantly underscores the tragedy which never fails to bring tears to the eyes.  This visually provocative presentation, a revival of the 2010 production, features Metropolitan Opera soprano Danielle Pastin as the betrayed Butterfly, and tenor Richard Troxell as Lt. B. F. Pinkerton, star of Frédéric Mitterand’s award-winning film version of the opera.
