The Muse Knoxville is coordinating the local area events as a part of the Tennessee STEAM Festival which will take place October 12‐22.  The festival aims to ignite curiosity and inspire interest in STEAM  areas – Science. Technology. Engineering. Art. Math.   

The festival offers more than 30 events across the East Tennessee region where all ages can interact with scientists, engineers, designers and other experts in a variety of STEAM fields. Fun and immersive events will feature hands - on activities, arts and crafts, robotics, magic shows, science demos and more.  

“Our mission at The Muse Knoxville is to inspire and empower generations at the intersection of science and art,” said The Muse Knoxville’s Executive Director Ellie Kittrell. “Our goal for the Tennessee STEAM Festival is just that! The festival is going to promote STEAM in a fun and interactive way, leaving a positive impact on our local community.” 

The Muse Knoxville has partnered with local businesses and communities to build interest and awareness of STEAM careers for future generations. The sponsorships in the East Tennessee region that have made these festival events possible include TVA, Lowes, ORNL, Arconic, KnoxMakers, Graham Corporation, Schulz Bräu, Smoke‐Free Knoxville and Fletcher Marketing PR. 

A few of the scheduled events include: 

  • STEAM in the City, Presented by TVA – October 14, 2017 – Market Square
  • ORNL Traveling Science Fair – October 17, 2017 – Jacob Building
  • Family STEAM Night at West Town Mall – October 19, 2017 – West Town Mall 
  • Way Late Play Date: Marvel vs. DC Comics – October 20, 2017 – Shulz Bräu 
  • STEAM Carnival Family Fun Day – October 21, 2017 – The Muse Knoxville 

Other event partners include: Blount County Public Library, Carpenters Elementary School, City of Kingsport, Great Smoky Mountain Institute at Tremont, Ijams Nature Center, Knox County Public Library, Knoxville Botanical Gardens, Knoxville Museum of Art, Montvale Elementary School, Prospect Elementary School, Union Grove Elementary School, Zoo Knoxville.

Through a partnership with the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro, development of a statewide Tennessee STEAM festival is in process with a broader statewide focus in the coming years.
