In less than two week’s time, Knoxville will become pure street rod heaven, as more than 2,500 street rods, custom, muscle cars, trucks and specialty vehicles from near and far will be seen cruising the streets of Knoxville. Held at Knoxville’s Chilhowee Park and Expo Center on May 4th, 5th and 6th the National Street Rod Association’s 43rd annual Street Rod Nationals South remains as the largest rod & custom show in the region. All vehicles on display are at least thirty years of age or older, each having undergone a great deal of modernization and refinement.
The Memphis based Association is the worlds first street rod sport sanctioning organization with membership worldwide. The Volunteer Street Rod Association of Knoxville will assist with the event representing Knoxville as the official host club since 1984.
According to Jerry Kennedy, Special Event Director for the Association, and coordinator for the event, street rods in attendance will have a collective value of over 100 million dollars. The average rod or machine is worth $12 - $35,000, and most include the most modern of safety and comfort features including state of the art suspensions, air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, exotic stereo systems, even GPS systems and much, much more.
The public is invited to view the street rods at Chilhowee Park during the three-day event beginning at 8:00 a.m. daily. Tickets will be on sale at the gates.
2018 marks the thirty-fifth consecutive year in which the NSRA has elected to hold the Street Rod Nationals South in Knoxville. According to Kristen Combs, Communications Director of Visit Knoxville, this convention has generated more than 260 Million dollars in revenue for the community during their years here.
