The Knoxville Kendo Club and University of Tennessee Kendo Club are proud to announce that the 27th Southeastern US Kendo Federation Championship will be held in Knoxville, Tennessee. This martial arts competition will be held October 22, 2016 at the Bearden High School gymnasium.
The event is an official Southeastern US regional championship of kendo, a Japanese martial art featured in the scenes of duels in Star Wars. This is the 27th official championship of the martial art in the Southeastern US region. Knoxville hosted the event six years ago.
“Kendo is a Japanese martial art that was developed based on samurai sword fight. This annual tournament is held in different cities in the Southeast region and this is a great opportunity (once in 5-10 years) to see and learn the martial art in Knoxville,” states Shigetoshi Eda, Lead Instructor of the University of Tennessee Kendo Club. “We hope people come and cheer for the clubs to defend their titles!”
Last year, the Knoxville Kendo Club members took first place in three divisions.
The event is open and free to the public for observation.
