In less than a month’s time, nearly 3,000 street rods, muscle cars, custom cars, trucks and specialty vehicles traveling from near and far will be seen cruising the streets of Knoxville.

Each of these vintage painted and chromed cars and trucks are at least thirty years old or older and will be in town to take part in the region’s largest automotive event, The National Street Rod Association's 40th annual Street Rod Nationals South Plus on May 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Formed in 1970, the Memphis based Association is the “fun with cars” sport sanctioning organization with membership worldwide.  The Volunteer Street Rod Association of Knoxville will assist with the event representing our city as the official host club for the 30th consecutive year.

According to Jerry Kennedy, Special Event Director for the Association, and coordinator for the event, the rods and customs in attendance will have a collective value of over 100 million dollars.  The average rod is worth $10 - $35,000, and most include the most modern of safety and comfort features including four wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, tilt steering, cruise control, exotic stereo systems, GPS systems and much, much more.

The public is invited to view the street rods at Chilhowee Park and Expo Center during the three-day event beginning at 8:00 a.m. daily.  Tickets will be on sale at the gates.

2014 marks the thirty first consecutive years, the NSRA has elected to hold the Street Rod Nationals South Plus in Knoxville.  According to Kelli Gibson, Director of Event Operations for Visit Knoxville, this convention will generate more than 20 Million dollars in revenue for the community during this weekend.
