Knoxville, Tennessee - Mabry-Hazen House, built in 1858, will host a Civil War Living History on June 14th and 15th, 2014. Mabry’s Hill served as headquarters for both armies during the Civil War, and will be occupied by Union forces much like it was in 1864. Visitors will enjoy open camps, military demonstrations, cannon firing, and programming focused on the daily life of the soldier. Also included will be guided tours of the historic home, which features the original family collection.
Tickets are $5 per adult and $2 per child, and may be purchased on site. Admission includes a visit to Bethel Cemetery and Museum, which serves as the resting place for over 1,600 Confederate soldiers.
Mabry-Hazen House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located on six acres atop Mabry's Hill. Housing three generations of the same family from 1858 to 1987, the house is a premier example of Knoxville’s colorful past. Bethel Cemetery, established in 1861, contains a 48 foot tall Confederate monument erected in 1892 and an original caretaker’s cottage built in 1886. Both sites offer history pertaining to Knoxville’s divided past and will continue to offer special programming during the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
