The popular outdoor movie series kicks off on September 8 with The Goonies

Knoxville, TN - The silver screen is set to light up Market Square on Friday nights starting September 8 with The Goonies.  Based on a community-wide vote, this year's lineup of Knox County Public Library's Movies on Market Square also features a lonely robot, a chief-in-training, super heroes, and some star-crossed singing summer sweethearts.

Knox County Public Library is hosting the 14th year of Movies on Market Square presented by Knoxville TVA Employee Credit Union. The series aims to highlight the Library’s vast collection of movies and music with more than 22,000 DVDs representing over 15,000 titles. The Sights and Sounds Department at Lawson McGhee Library has one of the broadest physical collections of film and music of any public library in the Southeast. The Library also recently announced a new streaming film service named Kanopy making more than 15,000 titles available for streaming to library card holders.

And the winners are:

  • 9/8 -- The Goonies (PG, 1985)
  • 9/15 -- Grease (PG 1978)
  • 9/22 -- Moana (PG, 2016)
  • 9/29 – Guardians of the Galaxy (PG-13, 2014)
  • 10/4 – Wall E (G – 2008) celebrating the BIG READ
