Knoxville, TN – Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is extremely pleased to announce that free Wi-Fi is now available on all KAT buses and trolleys.  KAT has been phasing in the service on the system and testing it over several months.  KAT also offers free Wi-Fi at Knoxville Station Transit Center.

This announcement comes at the same time that KAT is introducing service improvements on thirteen different routes, including later service on several neighborhood bus routes, new Sunday services to the Knoxville Center area, and better frequencies on Broadway on Saturdays.

“This is a great time to change your commute to transit,” says Dawn Distler, Director of Transit for the City of Knoxville.  “With our free Wi-Fi, you can read and answer your e-mails before you even reach the office.  Our later service on many routes means you can work later, or stop off for dinner before you head home.  Google Transit trip planner makes it easy to plan your trip.  We recommend that you make 2017 the year you Ride for change.”

KAT has been working over several years on technology improvements.  In addition to Wi-Fi and Google Transit, KAT is working on an upgraded website that will offer improved compatibility with smart phones, easy access to route and schedule information and trip planning, and a feature that will allow passengers to sign up for and receive route-specific text alerts.  The new website is scheduled to launch in the summer of 2017.
