International STEAM organization celebrates 16th year in Knoxville with public Global Finals event for area families and businesses to explore the future of innovative technology

CHERRY HILL, N.J. May 11, 2016 – Ford Motor Company is working with Destination Imagination (DI), a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching students the creative process through hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), as well as social entrepreneurship challenges, to launch a public event on May 28 in World’s Fair Park, Knoxville, Tennessee at the Global Finals 2016 Innovation Expo.

“As part of our 16th year in Knoxville, we’ve teamed up with Ford to bring one of our innovative technology challenges to World’s Fair Park,” said Dr. Chuck Cadle, CEO of Destination Imagination. “We’ve been thankful for the Knoxville community and how they have welcomed us and the students for a full week of creative challenges these past 15 years. We wanted to share in the impact they have on the students’ lives and what better way than to open up our Global Finals in a way that celebrates the Knoxville community’s contributions to our organization.”

The one-of-a-kind Ford of the Future challenge at the Try Destination Imagination event allows students, area families and other participants to explore the future of driving. Participants will have the opportunity to discover automotive innovations, create new car components they would like to see in future cars, and  engage with Ford engineers and innovators. .

Through this partnership and the partnerships formed with additional outstanding organizations, the more than 9,000 students participating in this year’s Innovation Expo will uncover opportunities to become the builders of tomorrow. Global Finals is the world’s largest celebration of student creativity, with more than 1,400 of the top-tiered Destination Imagination teams showcasing their innovative solutions over the four-day event with opportunities for students to discover, explore and imagine.

The Try Destination Imagination event is open to the general public on Saturday, May 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST in the World’s Fair Park Amphitheater in Knoxville, Tennessee. The first 500 people in attendance will receive a free giveaway.
