Tickets to the Clarence Brown Theatre 2014 Gala are on sale now. Celebrating the CBT’s 40th Anniversary Season and benefiting the Clarence Brown Theatre Artists Fund Endowment, this year’s gala will be held on June 8, 2014 at 6:30 pm at The Standard on Jackson Avenue in conjunction with the Tony Awards, Broadway’s biggest night.

The evening will begin with cocktails, mingling and a blind wine drawing, followed by wine and dinner, provided by Northshore Brasserie and Bob’s Liquor & Wine. Scenic Designer and 2014 Gala Honoree Bob Cothran will then be presented the Artistic Achievement Award. The eventful night will end with a spirited bidding showdown for elaborate and exclusive live auction packages. Proceeds from the event will benefit the CBT Artists Fund Endowment which enables the CBT to bring theatre professionals from around the world to the CBT’s stages and classrooms, thereby enhancing the training of emerging theatre artists and artisans, while producing world-class productions CBT audiences and the region have come to expect.

2014 Gala Honoree Bob Cothran was a faculty member of the Theatre Department from 1972 to 1998, where he taught set design, drawing, and scenic painting and designed the sets for many department and CBT productions, most notably “The Merchant of Venice”, “The Tax Collector” and the revolving set for “A Christmas Carol.”  In the 1980s, Cothran redesigned an updated set for the Knoxville Nativity Pageant and continued to enhance it for the next 20 years.  He also designed and painted settings for several opera productions for the Rossini Festival.
